Women empowerment & development

Agency grows when opportunity is shared.

We support women’s voice, choice and participation by addressing the social and economic barriers that can limit opportunity, safety and agency.

What this looks like in practice.

01

Women’s leadership and decision-making

02

Economic agency and skills pathways

03

Awareness of rights, safety and support

04

Community action for lasting social change

“Empowerment becomes lasting when women have both a voice and the room to use it.”

Key areas of focus

Support that meets real needs.

Women’s empowerment grows when skills, confidence, economic opportunity and public voice reinforce one another.

Skill Training & Capacity Building

Skill training and capacity building create practical learning pathways that strengthen confidence, knowledge, and the ability to act on personal goals. Through supportive, hands-on sessions, people learn useful skills at their own pace, build trust in their abilities, and apply what they learn in everyday life, helping individuals and communities become more capable, independent, and ready for lasting, positive change.

Practical, hands-on training

GDF can offer learning sessions and workshops that focus on real, usable skills, so people leave with something they can apply in their daily lives, not just theory.

Building confidence step by step

Through guided, supportive learning, GDF can help individuals grow more comfortable trying new things, asking questions and trusting their own abilities.

Strengthening community capacity

GDF can train volunteers, community members and local leaders, so knowledge stays within the community and benefits others long after a programme ends.

Turning goals into action

GDF can help people set realistic personal and livelihood goals and map out clear learning pathways, with ongoing guidance to help them follow through.

Leadership Development

Women’s voices make communities stronger. Our Leadership Development efforts support women in participating in decisions, stepping into leadership roles and shaping the direction of their communities. By building confidence, offering guidance and creating space to speak up, we help women lead with purpose, inspire others and drive meaningful, lasting change in health, wellbeing and everyday community life.

Building confidence and voice

GDF can create safe, welcoming spaces where women practise speaking up, sharing ideas and expressing their views, so they feel ready to take part in community conversations and decisions.

Leadership training and mentoring

Through practical workshops and guidance from experienced mentors, GDF can help women build skills in communication, decision-making, problem-solving and teamwork, and turn those skills into real leadership roles.

Opening doors to decision-making spaces

GDF can support women in joining village committees, health groups, self-help groups and local forums, so their experiences and priorities shape the choices that affect their communities.

Encouraging women-led community action

GDF can back women in planning and leading their own initiatives on health, sanitation and wellbeing, helping them become role models who inspire other women and the next generation to step forward.

Awareness Programs

Awareness Programs open honest conversations around rights, safety, health and equality, so women can access the information and support they need. Through community sessions, workshops and outreach, GDF helps women understand their entitlements, recognise where to seek help, and make informed decisions. By building trust and encouraging dialogue, these programs create safer, more equal spaces for women and their families.

Community conversations on rights and equality

GDF can host open, judgement-free sessions in neighbourhoods, self-help groups and community spaces, where women learn about their rights and entitlements and feel comfortable asking questions.

Safety awareness and know-where-to-go guidance

GDF can share practical information on personal safety, safe reporting and local support services, so women know who to approach and how to reach help when they need it.

Health information in simple, local language

GDF can bring clear, reliable information on everyday health topics to women through workshops and outreach, helping them make informed decisions for themselves and their families.

Bringing families and communities along

GDF can involve men, youth and community leaders in these conversations, so support for women’s rights, safety and equality becomes a shared effort rather than a conversation women have alone.

Livelihood Support Workshops

Livelihood Support Workshops bring together practical skills, peer learning, and real opportunities to help women strengthen their economic agency. Through hands-on training, shared experiences, and guidance on managing money, participants gain the confidence to start or grow income-generating activities. GDF walks alongside them, building pathways toward steady, dependable earnings, greater decision-making power, and lasting independence for themselves and their families.

Skill-building that matches local opportunity

GDF can run hands-on workshops in trades, small enterprise and income-generating activities that fit what is actually viable in participants’ communities, so the learning leads somewhere practical.

Peer learning circles

GDF can bring women together to share experiences, trade ideas and learn from others who have started their own livelihoods, building confidence and a support network that lasts beyond the workshop.

Guidance on financial basics

GDF can offer simple, accessible sessions on saving, budgeting and managing small earnings, helping participants make informed money decisions with greater control.

Links to markets and resources

GDF can help participants connect with local markets, self-help groups, training partners and available schemes, turning new skills into steady income and long-term independence.

Our commitment

Participation is stronger when choice is real.

We do not define empowerment for women. We help create the conditions for women to identify their priorities, build collective strength, and access the opportunities they need to make informed choices.
